Portraiture is one of the oldest art forms. Nothing compares with the classic experience of sitting for a portrait. I paint in the alla prima method, meaning that the painting is done in a single session. My painting style is loose and impressionistic. A commission entails an initial sitting of about two hours, set up at your convenience. At this point, you may decide if this painting is at the stage of completion that you desire. If your requirements are for a ‘tighter’ painting, I then take reference photos to continue the work on my own in my studio. An additional sitting to apply finishing touches is helpful but not obligatory. You may choose to include “props,” in the tradition of portraits done in the Renaissance. Sittings take place in my airy studio.
